Double bass Anonymous, approx.1880
String length 105 cm.
Probably built in Northern Italy or Tyrol. The repair slip is labelled with Vienna 1930. This instrument comes from the old collection of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and was played there for a long time. It seems to us like it´s made in Italy, due to the fact that there is not a clear determination of origin, the bass is rated as a beautiful Tyrolean instrument.
The bass is in stable repaired condition and got a new K&T bridge.

A wonderful old 5 string bass with lots of sound. It reminds us a lot of basses made in Germany for the Hawkes and Sons workshop in this time. Good condition, big sound with lots of colors and quality. K&T Setup.

Viennese double bass, attributed to Marianus Petz ca.1770
String length 105 cm.
A piece of history comes for sale: this original Viennese bass made in the second half of the 18th century was played for a long, long time in the Vienna Hofburg Theater. It sounds excellent and is in a stable and playable condition, the soundpost crack is holding but should be stabilized with a soundpost patch. Due to the neck set angle used in the 19th century, this bass would also be suited for a baroque setup with gut strings. The condition of the bass is reflected in the relatively low price.
